Relief:

Owing to the diversity of its soil Hammamet offers a big variety of geographic features. The relief consists of two plain small coastal parts of low altitude: a large plain on the West and a narrow one on the East.

These two plains ends on the sea by sand beaches bordering the littoral along twenty kilometres bordering beautiful and luxurious gardens and marking the Gulf of Hammamet..

Up to the North West, at the back side of Hammamet, series of hills, ( the Front Mounts of the Mountain Range) dominates the city and the sea. These hills are not very high and their height doesn't exceed 250 meters.

The Climate:

The climate of Hammamet is a Mediterranean climate, littoral warm and sunny (in fact it's a microclimate). It is intensely subject to the moderator warming effects of the sea which appear in the low annual thermic magnitude ( a winter average of 12° , a summer average of 26° and an annual average of 19°).

Besides, the sea breeze weakens there the Sirocco blows, though they are rare in this area.

The wet season lasts from the autumn to the spring. The pluviometry is stationary around 400 millimetres per year. The phreatic table is generally not deep, but it is little by little exhausted, because it has been extensively exploited for a very long time in the past in order to meet the needs of an extensive agriculture and today those of a population and a growing touristic activity.

The water source of Al-Fawara which essentially provides the population with drinking water remains an important asset owing to its flow and quality.

The Fauna and the Flora:

The forest of Jebel of Hammamet stretches across 1800 hectares on the North-West of the city at the level of Al-Fawara, now partly transformed to a recreational forest. It is a forest with a wide variety of plants, but where the Thuja of Bérbérie essentially predominates. We can find there too some islets of the Kèrmes-oak, the Alp pine, the juniper, and the rosemary…

The savage fauna is important too with a variety of animals: stone marten, martre, hyena, boar, porcupine, fox, harrier, quail, tortoise, hare and many others living there.

In short, the natural assets of the city are of remarkable importance. We can find all kinds of trees in Hammamet: pomegranate, lemon, orange, olive, fig, mandarin, mulberry, trees and other kinds of plants coming from all over the world like the Jasmine of Arabia and the Jasmine of the Duck de Toscane, the water lily of Egypt, the acacia of the Tropics, the hibiscus and other exotic trees like the gardenia of Sicily, the royal palm tree, the parkinsonia, the amber tree, and the plumeria plants which fill the air with various scents.
